Spoonerisms are words or phrases in which letters or syllables get swapped. This often happens accidentally when we get our words mixed up (or merds wixed up).

 Some examples of spoonerism are:

  • keen as mustard– mean as custard
  • it’s pouring rain– it’s roaring pain

This activity covers areas such as spelling, figurative language, word relationships & nuances in word meanings.

This resource provides the background to spoonerism and contains 3 activities, a spoonerism class game and a poster. The kids will love these activities:

Fantastic resource - exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!

This is a fun activity to teach this poetic device. I used it as an extension activity for my students. I liked the variety of activities within this pack.
